Brad Pitt’s Girlfriend Spent the ’00s Injecting the Red Hot Chili Peppers with Ozone

Sat Hari Khalsa, the woman that Us Weekly reported today is dating actor Brad Pitt, has a pretty interesting résumé. The mom, jewelry designer, and holistic healer spent much of the early-2000s as the touring nurse for band the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Specifically, she was on hand to inject the rockers with ozone.

Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Michael “Flea” Balzary was the first to dabble in Khalsa’s alternative therapy, but it was singer Anthony Kiedis who got really hooked on the ozone injections.

“One of my main soul mates is Sat Hari. Flea brought her on tour to administer intravenous ozone therapy to him,” Kiedis wrote in his autobiography, Scar Tissue. “Sat Hari is a nurse, an American Sikh, a sweet, incredibly sheltered, turban-wearing young lady. She looks like a female version of Flea, with the same gap-toothed smile, the same shape of face, the same color eyes, the same little pug nose. She’s maternal and she’s warm and she’s loving and she’s unassuming, a complete breath of fresh air and female energy, and I don’t mean sexual energy, at least not for me. For me she’s like a sister and mother and caretaker and nurse all in one.”

Kiedis had been a heroin user in the 1990s and, as a consequence of that habit, contracted hepatitis C. Around 2000, he got clean, and turned to holistic medicine to help his liver, including the injections.

“The substance that she injects into my bloodstream is ozone, a wonderful-smelling gas that has been used legally in Europe for years to treat everything from strokes to cancer,” he wrote in the book. “I immediately researched the topic and found a herbal regimen that would cleanse my liver and eradicate the hepatitis.”

While somewhat popular in naturopathic circles, intravenous ozone isn’t exactly accepted by the medical establishment. The U.S. Food and Drug administration states that “ozone is a toxic gas with no known useful medical application.”

Intravenous ozone might seem a little wacky, but sometimes it’s the wackiest things that lead us to love. The first place that Khalsa was spotted cozying up to Pitt was at a 2018 fundraising event for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music–a music education center founded by Flea, for which Kiedis sits on the board of directors.

These days, the 50-year-old Khalsa focuses on a new endeavor: designing the fine jewelry line AMRIT Jewelry.
